Leicester Blue Sox celebrate their 15th anniversary this year and will be holding a special event at Western Park to mark the occasion on Sunday 22nd August.
Current and former adult/junior players, members, their families, fans of baseball and spectators are all welcome (in line with current government guidance, there are no restrictions on number of spectators).
Here’s what we have lined up on the day:
- Legends game (featuring current and former Leicester Blue Sox players)
- Baseball5 zone for the kids
- Andy Brown artist ‘painting the field’
- Presentation to umpire Shawn Brotherhood to mark his retirement
- Post-event drinks at The Forge, Glenfield
Current and former Blue Sox players are invited to our Legends game, where new and old faces will suit up for the love of the game!
Previous Legends games have been played in 2013 and 2016, the last game marked our 10th anniversary.
First pitch is midday, we are encouraging players to arrive by 11am for registration and rostering.
Baseball5 has been a been a big hit with the kids this summer and we return to Western Park for one final session before we wrap things up for the season!
The zone will open from 10am, with games being played between 10.30am-11.30am, packing things up in time to enable us to watch the Legends game on the main diamond.
Existing Baseball5 players and brand new beginners (aged 8-13) are welcome to get involved, no registration is required – just turn up and play!
Andy Brown artist ‘painting the field’
Andy Brown has been touring the baseball fields of Britain this summer and immortalising them on canvas.
To date, Andy has painted over 100 different sports stadiums and arenas worldwide and his work has been recognised by Buckingham Palace, the BBC, ESPN and even the Trivial Pursuit board game!
We are very lucky to have secured Andy services for our 15th anniversary event. Once his painting has been completed, he will be producing a limited edition set of 10 prints of the Western Park ballpark.
The cost of a print is £20 and pre-orders are now open, if you wish to secure a print please complete the following order form – first come, first served – once they’ve gone, they’ve gone!
Presentation to umpire Shawn Brotherhood to mark his retirement
Umpire Shawn Brotherwood has been involved in British baseball across the Midlands for the past two decades. Firstly, as a player for Birmingham Bulldogs and then for the last 12 years as an independent umpire officiating games at Leicester, Long Eaton and Nottingham.
Shawn will be coming to Western Park to call ‘one last game’ before he hangs up his clicker for a well-deserved retirement from baseball. We will be making a special presentation to Shawn at the plate-conference before our Legends game at midday.
Post-event drinks at The Forge, Glenfield
Over the years it had become customary for post-game drinks to be held at the nearby Forge Inn in Glenfield but during these Covid-times we have been unable to do so for quite a while!
Sparing any u-turns on recent loosening of restrictions, we invite everyone to toast our 15th anniversary in the traditional way at The Forge, following the conclusion of our Legends game.
Address of the pub is: Main St, Glenfield, Leicester LE3 8DG
We hope to see as many current and former members of the Leicester Blue Sox at our 15th Anniversary event!
